Vendor & Commodity Manager

Summary

The Vendor & Commodity Manager is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and managing vendor relationships and commodity contracts essential to waste processing, recycling operations, equipment procurement, transportation services, and materials resale channels. This role directly supports organizational objectives related to cost efficiency, supplier performance, regulatory compliance, and sustainable supply chain practices.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate, select, and manage vendors and service providers across waste, recycling, transportation, equipment, and processing services.

  • Establish and maintain strong supplier partnerships with waste haulers, recyclers, equipment OEMs, and third-party processors.

  • Monitor, track, and report supplier KPIs including quality, delivery performance, compliance, cost competitiveness, and sustainability metrics.

  • Monitor recycled commodity markets (including metals, plastics, fiber, and glass) and develop sourcing and sales strategies aligned with pricing trends and demand forecasts.

  • Negotiate commodity purchase and resale agreements, including spot and long-term contracts.

  • Lead RFP and RFQ processes, including supplier evaluations, bid analysis, and contract negotiations related to pricing, service levels, and terms.

  • Ensure contract compliance, accuracy, and proper documentation in alignment with company policies and legal requirements.

  • Track spend, cost savings, supplier performance metrics, and commodity market trends.

  • Identify and implement opportunities for cost reduction, performance improvement, supply continuity, and enhanced vendor value.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in procurement, vendor management, or commodity sourcing (experience in waste/recycling preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Finance, Engineering, or related field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and financial modeling skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 360
  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities
  • Ability to thrive in fast paced and challenging working environment
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Knowledge of waste processing, commodity flows, recycling markets, and vendor ecosystems.
  • Self-starter with strong recycling/environmental and sustainability acumen (preferred)
